He gave her everything… but then she destroyed him. A second chance fake fiancée romance about love, mistakes, and the path to forgiveness.
Cowboy Jax Dexin thought his best days had arrived the day he’d met Simone. His future was clear, she was it, and life was buttermilk and roses with her. But then she broke his heart and stomped all over it. Simone Addison left him with scars and vanished.
So when she reappears a few years later, his immediate reaction is to send her back to whatever hole she crawled from.
Then he sees it for what it is—an opportunity to make her pay. To shatter her like she’d done to him. To make her rue messing with him.
Doctor billionaire Simone Addison has only one regret in her life—the day she gave up Jax. She’d loved him, never stopped, and now hopes he can forgive her for breaking his heart.
Becoming his fake fiancée wasn’t the best way to get back to him, but with the history between them, she had no choice.
But the cold and aloof man in front of her was no longer her sweet and kind cowboy. Melting his frozen heart now seems impossible.
Then the unexpected happens.
The icy exterior of Jax’s traitorous heart starts to crack and melt. Even though he detests her for breaking his heart… almost as much as he wants her. Even though she could become his downfall again.
At least it isn’t an actual relationship, he tells himself. It’s only pretend.
Until it isn’t…

Jax Dexin had guessed she was special from the first time he’d laid eyes on her. But he’d been wrong, dead wrong. Simone Addison was so much more. She was the last person he ever wanted to set his eyes on ever again.
She’d eroded his heart, made it her own, and then smashed it into pieces five years, six months, and seven days ago. Not that he’d been counting. Simone had cut him off without a word, and every attempt to reach her had been futile.
It’d been the day he’d received the news that had blindsided him. The one that had left him gasping in pain.
Dr. Simone Addison, the only woman he’d let in and cherished with all his heart, his angel on earth whom he’d believed loved him in return, had betrayed him.
Mercilessly.
He, Jax Dexin, had been thoroughly fooled.
His world had fallen apart, and only with a herculean effort had Jax woken up each day and continued like nothing happened, burying himself so deep in his work he wasn’t sure how he’d been able to breathe.
He’d forced himself to forget her, which'd been hard, since he hadn’t yet recovered from the sudden disappearance and betrayal by his twin brother Rex. Soon, the years had passed, and he’d thought he’d moved on.
Until today.
In the spacious barn set up for the evening’s singles’ mixer event with the aromas of fresh air, nature, and aftershave competing for prominence, Jax stood rooted on the spot, his traitorous heart betraying him and beating wildly like a bird trying to free itself from its cage as soon as he’d spotted her a few feet away.
She, on the other hand, flashed that quiet but confident smile that had always taken his breath away and later haunted his memories at night.
What was Simone doing here in Dexin, his hometown of all places?
* * *
Simone had never forgotten him, even for one minute over the last five-and-a half years, a part of her hoping for another chance for them.
But she’d seen Jax hug that pretty young lady. The familiarity between them had raised an ache in her heart, made worse by the look of shock and hatred in Jax’s eyes when he’d spotted Simone.
The truth was now obvious.
Jax would never forgive her for what she’d done.
Simone swiped at the tears that ran unbidden down her cheeks. No matter how much it hurt, it was time to let go.
Time to forget Jax and let him live life with the love he deserved.
Taking a deep breath, Simone turned the ignition and backed out of the parking space.
She’d never see Jax again.
Even if it meant she’d never get the chance to tell him the truth of what had really happened that day many years ago...
